Juneau Whale Watch & Mendenhall Glacier

From $165

This is an enthralling opportunity to witness two jewels in Juneau – the graceful elegance of humpback whales and the serene beauty of the Mendenhall Glacier. Our fleet of whale watching boats and glacier shuttles offer a seamless combination of two of Juneau’s favorite activities and our most popular tour.

Upon check in, our friendly dock representatives will put you on the right bus for a narrated 30-minute drive to your first destination.

Mendenhall Glacier is Alaska’s only drive up glacier and the #1 natural attraction in Juneau. You can choose to hike to Nugget Falls (plan 1.5 hours for a leisurely walk or at least 1 hour if you hurry), take the Photo Point Trail (20 round trip), look for wildlife along the Steep Creek trail, or stroll up the easy walk to the Visitor Center.

During your time on the water, you will be accompanied by a naturalist who explains the feeding habits of these magnificent creatures and identifies the many other kinds of wildlife that share these waters. Our whale watching boats are custom made to enhance your experience – a warm heated cabin with large viewing windows, and two decks to hurry to when the captain slows after spotting the whales. A bathroom is onboard. Snacks, water and binoculars are also provided.

Juneau Whale Watching

From $145

Join us for the best show in town, a 3.5-hour whale watching excursion (includes transportation time and 2 hours on the water) which begins when you board a coach bus that departs downtown Juneau from the Mt. Roberts Aerial Tramway parking lot. Travel 30 minutes through the picturesque landscape of Southeast Alaska, along the Gastineau Channel, past the Mendenhall Tidelands, through the Tongass forest and arrive at Auke Bay Harbor. “All aboard!” and you’re off for the Alaska waters of the Inside Passage and the ultimate whale watching experience.

On our quest for whales, we will also be on the lookout for bald eagles, seals, sea lions, black bears and more of Alaska’s wildlife. The star of the tour is the humpback whale, but we are always looking out for the playful orcas. Once we spot a whale the captain will slow down and allow you to go on the spacious viewing decks for a great photo opportunity. Our custom design provides unrestricted viewing from inside the cabin as well. Although the cabin is enclosed and heated, we recommend you dress in layers, after all, it is Alaska!

With our experienced captains and Juneau being one of the best ports for whale watching in Alaska, this tour will be an unforgettable experience.

A light snack and refreshments will be provided.

Mendenhall Glacier Shuttle

From $45

Breathtakingly beautiful, the Mendenhall Glacier fills the valley for as far as the eye can see. As you stand on the banks of the glacier-fed lake, at the foot of the ice flow, cool breezes and fresh air brush your cheeks. Inching down from the Juneau Icefield nearly 3000 years ago and now receding at a rate of 150-200 feet per year, the deep blue and lighter hues reveal the remains of an ancient forest overcome a 1000 years ago by the slowly creeping ice. After an 80-year journey, ice accumulated each winter at the top of the mountain slips down to form the terminus of the glacier only to slowly melt in the warmer summer air. Nearby, a waterfall plummets 377 feet down the side of a mountain, roaring into Mendenhall Lake. Surrounded by forest, in a steep valley carved out by advancing and receding ice for hundreds of thousands of years, the Mendenhall Glacier can only truly be appreciated in person.
